Stenograph Announces New Driver Release Restoring Direct USB Connectivity for CATalyst Users

Stenograph has released a new driver solution designed to restore and strengthen connectivity between writers and CATalyst software, ensuring customers can continue working with a reliable, long-term connection solution.

Over the past several months, evolving Microsoft Windows driver requirements introduced unexpected challenges in how Stenograph’s writer driver could be distributed and used. These changes impacted direct USB connectivity for some users, requiring temporary workarounds and adjustments to maintain performance.

Recognizing the urgency of this issue, Stenograph’s engineering team promptly submitted the driver for Microsoft's certification process. With that Certification still pending, our engineering team moved to develop a new solution. Through extensive development and rigorous testing, a new driver has now been released that fully addresses these changes and restores direct USB connectivity for customers using CATalyst v22 and future versions.

This release marks a significant step forward in ensuring reliability and ease of use across the Stenograph ecosystem. Customers can now return to a seamless USB connection, while benefiting from ongoing compatibility in line with Microsoft’s latest requirements.

What This Means for Customers (important version information)

For users on CATalyst v22, running the updater will install the new drivers that restore direct USB connectivity. Version 22 users who previously implemented the USB workaround should now connect via the standard USB Realtime Connection by changing the settings as follows:

Translate, Options, Realtime Tab, Stenograph Writer USB, and press OK.

Customers using CATalyst v21 and earlier versions should also install the latest driver. While these versions will continue to rely on the legacy connection method for virtual serial USB connectivity, the updated driver is required to support the latest utilities and maintain compatibility.

Customers can install the latest driver using one of the following methods:
