More of our customers are looking for quick ways to get their work done. One way to make your Web browsing experience quicker is to use desktop shortcuts. The following article will show you how to create a shortcut on your Windows desktop for the Technical Support Help Desk, but the steps could be used for any page you visit on the Web.
Shortcut to the Help Desk
To create a desktop shortcut in Windows Internet Explorer 5.x or above, go the "Technical Support, Training and Downloads" page, then click on the Help Desk icon. This will display the Help Desk search page. Move your mouse to a blank part of the page and right-click the mouse. This will give you a drop down menu, click on Create Shortcut. A dialog box will appear that says, A shortcut to the current page will be placed on your desktop, click OK. An icon should now appear on your desktop.
You can also create a shortcut right from the desktop. To do this, find an unused space on your desktop and right click and select New and then select Shortcut. A Create Shortcut dialog box will appear. In the Command Line box type in http://www.stenograph.com/cgi-bin/search.pl and press Enter. Next, type in the name you want the shortcut to be. For this example, type in Stenograph Help Desk and press Enter. An icon should now appear on your desktop.
Shortcut to a New E-mail Message
Another useful shortcut is one that opens a new Internet e-mail message. To create this icon, find an unused space on your desktop and right click and select New and then select Shortcut. A Create Shortcut dialog box will appear. In the Command Line box type in MAILTO: and press Enter. Next, type in the name you want the shortcut to be. For this example, type in New E-Mail Message and press Enter. An icon should now appear on your desktop. Please note that this icon will work with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Outlook Express. It may not work with other e-mail packages.
Please keep in mind that if you are not on the Internet when you click on any of these shortcuts, it may bring up your Internet Service Provider dialog box. Once you connect to the Internet, it should take you directly to the site for that shortcut. If you have any questions, you can contact the Stenograph Technical Support Department at 1-800-323-4247. |
