How do I run the Case CATalyst 12 updater?

The Stenograph Updater connects to a special Stenograph Internet site and checks your Case CATalyst program files against the most current released files. If your program files are not current, the Updater loads the new files.

You must close Case CATalyst before running the Updater.
 

The Updater must completely finish before any of your system files are updated. If you lose connection to the Case CATalyst web site before the update completes, your current version is not modified. When you reestablish connection, the Update continues from the point the connection was lost.

The Updater only modifies program files, but it is generally a good idea to back up important files before using the Updater.

It is recommended that you run the Updater at least once a month. Case CATalyst displays an Update Reminder message if you have not run the Updater within 60 days of installing your current software version. When the Update Reminder message displays you can choose to run the Updater or select another reminder time and choose Remind Me Later.

The reminder time increments are: Tomorrow, Two Days, Three Days, One Week, Two Weeks, One Month, Two Months, Three Months.

To run the Stenograph Updater:

1. Close Case CATalyst.
   
   
2. From the Start menu, select All Programs/Stenograph/Case CATalyst Updater.
   
   You may have a UAC screen open depending on how your UAC is configured.  If a UAC screen opens click Yes.
   
   
   
   
   
   
3. The opening screen has two options.  The first is to download any new available Cats Clips.  It is selected by default and we recommend you download any new Cat Clips.  The second is to click on the button that will open the current README.  The README file will have a short description of any changes the update will make to your version of Case CATalyst. We recommend you do take a few moments to read the README file.  The last option is to click the Install button to install the update or click the cancel button and cancel the update.

6. Click the Finish button to complete the Case CATalyst Version 12 updated.
   

How do I update Case CATalyst 12 on a computer without an Internet connection?

 

If the computer you have installed Case CATalyst version 12.x on does not have Internet access and you wish to keep this computer up-to-date with Case CATalyst 12.x, there is a way you can accomplish this without a great deal of trouble.   

 

Updating a CATalyst 12.x computer without Internet access requires a memory stick or flash drive and a laptop computer capable of Internet access or a friend's computer that does have Internet access. 

 

Internet access is becoming available at most public libraries, Internet Cafés, office supply outlets and Internet "Hotspots" available at airports and many fast food resturants.  If you are not updating Case CATalyst because you don't have Internet access yourself or you do not want to connect your Case CATalyst computer to the Internet, this procedure is perfect for you.  

 

To accomplish a Case CATalyst 12.x update on a computer without Internet access please follow these steps:

On the Case CATalyst computer without Internet Access, using Windows Explorer or My Computer, navigate to the folder where Case CATalyst is installed. The default installation folder is C:\CAT4.  Connect your flash drive or memory stick to your computer and note the drive letter it is designated as when it opens.

1. Locate the folder you have installed Case CATalyst and go to the file titled SGDLUpdate.exe in the main CATalyst folder. Depending on your Windows settings you may or may not see the file extension ".exe" .
   
   
2. Click your right mouse button on SGDLUpdate.exe.
   
   
3. Click your left mouse button on Send To.
   
   
4. Click your left mouse button on the flash drive or memory stick you wish to use.
   
   
   
   

   
   
   

5. When sgdlupdate.exe copy has completed, remove the flash drive or memory stick from the Case CATalyst computer without Internet access and insert it into the computer with Internet access.  If your computer still has it's default settings, the flash drive or memory stick drive will open when you connect it to your computer's port.  Make sure all other applications are closed.
   
   
   
   
   
   
6. Double click on the Open folder to view files icon. The flash drive or memory stick drive will open.
   
   
7. Locate the SGDLUpdate.exe file on the flash drive or memory stick. Double left click the SGDLUpdate.exe file.  On Windows 7 and Windows Vista a UAC screen will open, click the Yes button to continue.
   
   
   
   
   
   
8. The Case CATalyst Version 12 Download Update screen will display.
   
   
   
   
   
   
9. Click Next. The Choose Save Location screen displays.
   
   
   

   The Destination Folder field indicates the location where the CaseCATalystUpdate.exe file is saved. If necessary, use the Browse button to locate a location on the flash drive or memory stick you wish to save CaseCATalystUpdate.exe at.
   
   
   

   
   
   
10. Left click the Download button. The CaseCATalystUpdate.exe file will download to the location you specified on the flash drive or memory stick. The download speed depends on the Internet connection. Wait until the Completed screen opens and then click the Finish button.
    
    
    
    
    
    
    
11. After clicking the Finish button, the copy CaseCATalystUpdate.exe to the flash drive or memory stick screen will open listing CaseCATalystUpdate.exe in the folder you selected.  This is further verification the download completed and is ready to be moved.  Close this window.
    
    
    
    
    
    
    
12. Remove the flash drive or memory stick from the Internet computer and insert it into the computer that does not have Internet access.
    
    
13. Use My Computer or Windows Explorer to copy the CaseCATalystUpdate.exe from the flash drive or memory stick onto the Case CATalyst computer without Internet access.
    
    
14. Double click the CaseCATalystUpdate.exe file. The Case CATalyst Version 12 Update Installation screen displays.
    
    
15. Click Next. The Choose Previously Installed Location screen displays. Confirm the current location of Case CATalyst. For example, if you used the default settings, C:\CAT4 would be the folder you would select. If necessary, use Browse to locate a different folder.
    
    
16. Click Update to install the update. The Installing screen displays with a progress bar as the updated files install.
    
    
17. At the Completing the Case CATalyst Version X Update Installation screen, click Finish. Any existing application files replaced by the update are stored in the Case CATalyst folder in the subfolder named SGUpdateBackup. The Case CATalyst folder is the location where Case CATalyst is installed.  To review changes in the software, start Case CATalyst and select Help, View Readme.
